| Vecindad
with Tercerunquinto
Residency dates: May 6, 2007 - June 9, 2007
Presentation: Friday, June 1, 2007
@ 7:30
Lui Velazquez is pleased to present "Vecindad," a coupling of projects in Tijuana and San Diego that examine complexities related to the siuation of vicinity.
Tercerunquinto develops work that inserts itself within public and private spaces to question limitations, deconstruct systems, and dismantle the logical order of relations. They engage pre-existing boundaries of both architectural and urban systems thus exploring the implications and effects that inhabit the personal, social, cultural, and political.
Vecindad (Vicinity) explores the idea of coexistence between neighbors to identify tensions which produce arrangements reflected in the reordering of common elements that are related to improvements of the house's surface.
This series of projects reveal the remarkable differences in circumstances, which are specific to the region of Tijuana/San Diego – looking at the process of combination and alienation in the socio-economics, but above all, the way the housing market changes, adapts, and is copied in these contexts. Vecindad as a gesture, strips away the complex strategies of progress, expansion, and development presented in the marketing and aesthetics of housing companies down to a naked facade.
